Day 22 Lesson Plan: Semicolons Quiz and The Interlopers Questions

semicolons quiz

Welcome to Day 22! Today’s class begins with some quiet reading time before jumping into a short grammar assessment on semicolons. Afterward, we’ll return to our short story study and finish The Interlopers questions from yesterday.

Lesson Flow

1. Silent Reading – 15 minutes
As always, start the day with sustained silent reading. Encourage students to find a comfortable space and immerse themselves in their novels.

2. Semicolons Quiz
After reading, introduce the semicolons quiz. This quiz helps reinforce proper semicolon usage and checks for understanding from the previous grammar lesson. Students should complete the quiz individually.

3. Finish The Interlopers Questions
Students will now complete their responses to the questions from yesterday’s lesson. These focus on literary analysis skills like identifying theme, irony, and setting.

Here are the questions again for reference:

  1. Irony: What is ironic about the ending of The Interlopers? How does this irony reinforce the story’s message?

  2. Plot: What is the turning point of the story, and how does it change the direction of events?

  3. Theme: What central theme is Saki exploring in The Interlopers? How do the characters’ actions and choices reflect this theme?

  4. Setting: How does the forest setting contribute to the tension and mood of the story?

  5. Ending: Do you believe the characters are alive at the end of the story? Why or why not? Use evidence from the text to support your answer.

Encourage students to expand on their ideas by referencing the text directly and comparing answers with peers after writing.

Teacher Tip:

You might collect the Interlopers questions as a formative assessment for reading comprehension and literary analysis. For the semicolons quiz, review common errors together afterward to reinforce proper punctuation in student writing.
